Heatstroke

Think of your car as a dry sauna.  Even on a COOL day, with temperatures in the 60s, the car’s interior can climb to deadly temperatures in minutes.  So heatstroke is NOT just a summer danger.

FACT: Keeping the windows slightly open does not significantly slow the rate of temperature rise.  Nor does it significantly change the maximum temperature reached inside the vehicle.

FACT: The color of the car has little impact on how rapidly the temperature climbs.

FACT: The temperature rises quickly the first 25 minutes, and then continues rising.

  • A child’s core temperature climbs faster than an adult’s core temperature.

  • A child in a car will go into heat stress, then heat exhaustion, very quickly.

  • Hyperthermia/heatstroke follows and is deadly.
